Jackets Fall to No. 14 Regis in Season Finale

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team lost its last game of the season in straight-sets (25-14,25-23,25-20) to No. 14 Regis University on Saturday evening.

In the starting lineup for the Yellow Jackets were three student-athletes playing their final game in a BHSU uniform, including, seniors Kylee Lamb and Kyla Johnson. Junior Darbi Yost also played her final game at BHSU as she has decided to pursue her nursing degree.

The Rangers ran away with the first set 25-14, despite strong performances from Caitlin Templeton and Amy O'Neill. The Yellow Jackets battled back in the second set, but couldn't finish strong and fell 23-25. In the third set, the Jackets once again kept it tight, but were not able to finish out the set, concluding the season on a 20-25 set.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Templeton and O'Neill who had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. O'Neill also led the Jackets with 12 digs. Templeton and O'Neill helped the defense with three blocks each.

Yost ended her career with a solid 34 assist night. Lamb capped off her Yellow Jacket career with seven kills and a team-high five blocks, and Johnson added four digs.

"We are extremely proud of our seniors," said head coach Sally Nichols. "Kylee, Kyla and Darbi helped our team improve throughout the seasons. They have worked hard on-and-off the court for this program. They will be deeply missed."

On the season, Lamb had a team-high 148 blocks (35 solo, 113 assisted). O'Neill led the Yellow Jackets with 350 kills (11.67 kills per game), and Templeton led BHSU with a kill percentage of .263. Templeton recorded 342 kills (11.4 kills per game) on the season. Yost had a team-high 800 assists (26.6 assist per game). Kelsey Olson led BHSU with 392 digs (13.06 digs per game) and Meghan Sipe recorded a team-high 27 service aces.
