Box Score 2 Chadron, Neb. – The Black Hills State University softball team travelled to Chadron, Neb. to play a double-header against Chadron State in the first of three double-headers for the Yellow Jackets this week. Black Hills State fell in the first game by a score of 2-4 and dropped the second game by a score of 0-12 in five innings to fall to 5-22 overall and 4-16 in the RMAC.
In the first contest of the day the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first inning, the Eagles however tied it at 2-2 after two innings before the game went scoreless for 4.5 innings. Katie Londo hit a 2-run walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Chadron State College softball team to a 4-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory
Senior pitcher Katie Wagner was tagged with the loss, she pitched 6.1 innings and gave up four runs on five hits. Wagner faced 31 batters and recorded one strike-out and two walks.
The two Yellow Jacket runs were scored by juniors Allie Alverson and Alex Huntington. The tandem each recorded one run in two at-bats.
Junior pitcher Nikki Chacon started the second game and pitched 1.1 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits before Huntington was called to relieve her. Huntington gave up two runs on three hits in 1 inning before Wagner returned to the mound in her second appearance of the day. Wagner pitched 1.2 innings and gave up three runs on four hits. Chacon was tagged with the loss.
Black Hills State was only able to record two hits, both by sophomore Kelsie Chambers who recorded two hits in two at-bats.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday, March 31 as they host University of Nebraska-Kearney, game times are scheduled for 12 noon and 2 p.m. MT at the Black Hills State University Softball Complex in Spearfish.
