Box Score 2 Lakewood, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team split Saturday with the Colorado Christian Cougars in Lakewood, Colo. by socres of 1-3 and 7-5 to improve to 7-34 overall and 5-27 in RMAC play.
The Yellow Jackets fell in the first game of the day as they were only able to score one run on twelve hits. Black Hills State held a 1-0 advantage after the first inning before Colorado Christian scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Junior Allie Alverson scored the Yellow Jackets lone run, she finished the game with two hits and one run in three at-bats.
Black Hills State senior pitcher Katie Wagner was tagged with the loss, she pitched all six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with three strike-outs and five walks.
In the second game of the day the Yellow Jackets trailed the Cougars 4-0 after four innings before they scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take the lead and win the game by a score of 7-5. Alverson once again led the offensive charge as she finished the game with one run on two hits and recorded two RBI. Sophomore Lenaya Vigil finished the game with one run on two hits in three at-bats including a homerun and recorded three RBI.
Yellow Jacket junior pitcher Nikki Chacon pitched a complete game giving up five runs (three earned) on ten hits with one walk and two strike-outs.
Black Hills State will return to action Wednesday, April 18 as they host Chadron State College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. MT at the BHSU Softball Complex in Spearfish.
