Box Score 2 Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Yellow Jacket softball team took to the softball diamond today for a double-header match-up against UC-Colorado Springs, Black Hills State fell in the first game of the day by a score of 4-6 and went on to be defeated by the Mountain Lions in the second game of the day by a score of 0-10 (six innings).
Black Hills State came out firing in the first game of the day as they took a 3-1 lead after four innings before giving up three runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning. The Yellow Jackets recorded eight hits in the game led by sophomore Lenaya Vigil who recorded one run on two hits in three at-bats while batting in two runs. Vigil also recorded five put-outs from her catcher position.
Senior pitcher Katie Wagner pitched a complete game for the Yellow jackets giving up six runs on nine hits with four strike-outs and no walks.
In the second game the of the day the Yellow Jackets trailed the Mountain Lions 0-4 after three innings and were not able to generate any offense, recording only two hits in the game and fell by a score of 0-10 (six innings). Junior Allie Alverson and Vigil each recorded one hit in the contest.
Black Hills State saw junior pitcher Alex Huntington pitch five innings and gave up 10 runs on 13 hits while recording three walks and three strike-outs.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Monday, March 9 as they travel to Dickinson State, game times are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. MT.
