BHSU close out road trip with sweet victory, sweep UCCS on year

Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Black Hills State University men's basketball (6-19, 5-16 RMAC) beat UC-Colorado Springs for the second time this season, 65-62, in a back and forth contest that saw Brady Bisgaard score a team-high 15 points with seven assists on the night.

The Yellow Jackets finished their season on the road with the win as they prepare for the last game of the season next Saturday night.

BHSU dominated down low as they had 38 points in the paint, while UCCS had 24.  The Jackets also saw strong support from their bench that put up 22 points combined.  Ryan Allen had 10 points, Riley Ryan had seven as Brody Brisk and Raith Durham comined for five points.

Bisgaard finished the night on 6-of-11 shooting with two three-pointers.  Tanner Adler tallied 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting while going 2-of-3 from three-point land.

As a team, BHSU was just 3-of-6 shooting from the foul line, while UCCS got to the free throw line a total of 29 times, making 19 (65.5 percent).

The rebounding for both squads was about even as UCCS won that battle by just two, 26-24.  UCCS did have two players scoring almost 20 points with Derrick White leading the way with 19 points as Alex Welsh had 18 and combined for 10-of-18 shooting.

BHSU shot an impressive 54 percent from the field on 28-of-52 shooting as UCCS finished 50-percent from the field on 19-of-38 shooting.

The game's biggest lead was just seven points by the Yellow Jackets and the Cougars led by six at one point, while the game saw zero fast break points from either team.

The season sweep of the Cougars (5-19, 5-15 RMAC) is the first sweep of one team by the Jackets as they hope to add to that total after having beaten their next opponent, Chadron St., earlier in January by 16 points, 77-61.

Chadron St. (3-22, 3-18 RMAC) will make their way to Spearfish to take on the Jackets for senior night in the Young Center on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 7:30 pm MT.

Be sure to make your way out to the Young Center Gymnasium for the final time this season to support both your men's and women's basketball teams as they look to sweep the Eagles on Senior Night beginning at 5:30 pm MT!
