SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University freshman pitcher, Kaitlin Farrar, struck out three batters and allowed just three earned runs on way to a complete game, 6-3, victory over the Cougars of Colorado Christian University on Wednesday afternoon.

Farrar helped the Yellow Jackets earn their third win of the season after navigating through 31 batters as 62-percent of her pitches crossed the plate as strikes.  BHSU handed CCU just their fourth lost in the last 10 games.

BHSU first-baseman, Rebecca Green, went 2-for-3 and added two RBIs after she laced a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second-inning off Cougar pitcher, Mariah Bledsoe.

After Green knocked home LF Alex Huntington and DP Erica Everson, C Sara Schmid advanced to third after having singled earlier in the inning.  Two batters later, senior CF Allie Alverson hit a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Schmid to score and give Alverson the RBI to stretch the lead stretched to three-runs.

Farrar helped herself at the plate after going 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored game high two-runs.  In the fourth-inning she singled and later scored from third on a heads up play to beat the throw home after Alverson had stolen second base.

In the sixth inning, Farrar smoked a ball down the first-base line that allowed her to slide into third base with an RBI triple.  A batter later, Farrar scored her second run of the game as Alverson followed Farrar's lead with another RBI triple, as the Yellow Jackets were rolling.

Farrar closed out the last of the Cougars after a strikeout, pop-out, and ground-out to secure the victory in the top of the seventh.

The Cougars did get the best of the Yellow Jackets in game-one as CCU's bats were active early as they scored two-runs in the first and three-runs in the second, as they won the game 5-0.

CCU senior pitcher, Genevieve Reyna, threw a complete game five-hit shutout to pick up her eight win of the season in her 14th start on the mound.

BHSU DP Erica Everson did have the hottest bat for the Jackets as she reached base all three times up after going a perfect 2-for-2, with two singles and a walk.

The Jackets did put themselves in good position to knock home some runs after leaving  a total of seven runners on base; however, Reyna remained consistent the whole game from the mound. Like Farrar in game-two, Renya threw a strike 62-percent of the time that resulted in many BHSU ground outs.

BHSU now moves to 3-10 in the RMAC and 3-16 overall.  Next up for the Jackets is a four-game road series down in New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, March 27-29.  BHSU will take on N.M Highlands and Chadron State College over the weekend.

Friday, the Jackets play CSC at 12:00 p.m. MT and NMH at 2:00 p.m. MT.  On Saturday, BHSU will play NMH at 10:00 a.m. MT, followed by a match-up with CSC at 12:00 p.m. MT to close out the weekend.  BHSU return home for a double-header versus Dickinson State on Monday, April 1 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
