SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell 3-1 Saturday evening to Regis University in the Young Center.
The Yellow Jackets were able to win the second set but Regis prevailed in the match 25-8, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-20. Regis improves to 12-4 on the year and 7-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-11, 4-4.
After dropping the first set, the Yellow Jackets opened a 15-10 lead in the second set. Holding a 10-9 lead, the Green and Gold received four-straight points, beginning with a kill from Brynn Eckhardt.
The rally continued with a pair of aces from Eckhardt and concluded with a kill from Danielle Torpey. The 15-10 lead came from a service error from the Rangers Caitie Breaux.
Regis fought back to knot the set at 18-18 before the Yellow Jackets pushed ahead for the set victory. Fehrin Ward had a kill while Shelby Mayer had a block to give the Yellow Jackets a 21-19 lead. After the Rangers got a point off a bad Yellow Jacket set, the Green and Gold scored four of the next five points. Torpey had a kill while Kenzie Kazmer had a solo block and Meghan Sipe and Mayer had an assisted block.
Black Hills State won the set on an attack error from Maggie Steward of Regis.
Regis came back in sets three and four and showed why they are in a tie for first place in the RMAC en route to the four-set match victory.
The Yellow Jackets travel to Colorado School of Mines on Friday for a 7 p.m. match followed by a contest at Metro State University of Denver at 4 p.m. Saturday.
