Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – A hot-shooting Montana State University Billings doomed Black Hills State University men's basketball 79-61 Saturday afternoon in Billings, Montana.
MSU-Billings (1-5) fired 60.0 percent from the field including a scorching 72.7 percent in the second half to pull away from a 33-30 halftime score to the final of 79-61.
Black Hills State (2-4) was led by Yoshio Allen with a season-high 16 points and six rebounds while Riley Ryan had 12 points and six rebounds as the Yellow Jackets shot 43.4 percent from the field.
The Green and Gold sprinted out to a 10-4 lead behind five points from Ryan and four from Allen while Wyatt Krogman hit a free throw with 13:52 remaining in the first half.
MSU-Billings stormed back with a pair of 3-point baskets, one from Marc Matthews, who had a game-high 23 points, and the other from Antoine Hosley.
The two squads battled back and forth in the first half to the tune of six ties and two lead changes. Montana State Billings grabbed the lead with 4:16 remaining in the first half on a jumper from Jordan Perry, to give MSUB the 27-25 lead.
Allen knotted the game with a layup on the very next BHSU possession but a pair of free throws from Matthews gave MSUB a lead they would not relinquish throughout the remainder of the game.
In the second half, Montana State Billings got off to a quick start behind the hot shooting of Matthews and continued to build the lead until the final score of 79-61.
The two squads split on turnovers, with each team having 11 apiece while MSUB won the rebound battle 29-23. Black Hills State dished 15 assists as Brady Bisgaard and Ryan Miller each had three.
Black Hills State enters Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday, hosting Western Colorado State University at 7:30 p.m. in the Young Center. The game features the return of former Yellow Jacket head coach Bradd Shafer, who is now the head coach at Western State.
