Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – The Yellow Jacket softball team lost both games versus Regis University on Friday afternoon, 7-2 in game one and 5-4 in the second game of four scheduled this weekend.
GAME 1
Regis broke open a scoreless game after the first two innings of play by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a commanding lead. Regis' DH Carlie Sexton had a double in the third that scored three runs and 3B Taylor Wilcox scored later in the inning on a BHSU fielding error.
The Jackets got on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a C Erica Everson solo homerun – her third of the season. The only other score for BHSU came in the sixth inning when Savanah Eckhardt had an RBI single through the middle infield that scored 1B Rebecca Green.
Regis meanwhile padded their lead in the fourth after scoring two runs and one more insurance run in the sixth when Sexton picked up her fourth RBI of the game on a single to right center.
The winning pitcher for Regis was Brittney Lee who picked up her sixth win of the season after pitching a complete game and was charged with only one earned run and struck out eight Jackets. Kaitlin Farrar was the losing pitcher for BHSU as she went all six innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits.
GAME 2
Once again after two scoreless innings to begin the second game of the day, Regis took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when 2B Bradey King scored after a BHSU throwing error and C Shelby Wieman had an RBI single.
The Yellow Jackets fought back in the third inning to take the lead when they scored three runs after BHSU pitcher, Savanah Eckhardt, hit a three run homerun that scored C Erica Everson and 2B Katie Campo.
Regis' DH Carlie Sexton continued to lead the offensive charge for her team when she knocked in her sixth RBI of the day when she doubled to left center, scoring two. 1B Sam Talmich then gave Regis a two-run, 5-3, lead when she had an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
In the top of the fifth, the Jackets scored to get within one after 1B Rebecca Green had an RBI single up the middle that scored RF Katherine Drake.
The winning pitcher on the day was Sydney Gaffin who went 4.1 innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits and walked three. Nicole Hull picked up the save after pitching 2.2 innings and giving up just two hits to close the game. Eckhardt went all six innings on the mound for the Jackets and was charged with only one earned run on seven hits and struck out two.
The Yellow Jackets will face off against Regis in another doubleheader Saturday, Apr. 12 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
