Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team (1-20, 1-15 RMAC) lost both games of Sunday's doubleheader at the hands of Colorado Christian University, 4-0 in game one and 7-0 in game two.
GAME 1
Mariah Bledsoe picked up her sixth win of the season on the mound for CCU as she held the Yellow Jackets to just three hits and no runs after pitching a complete game for her team.
CCU also was successful early offensively as well after they opened up the game with a three-run first inning. CF Jackie Sanzolone hit a two run single, which was followed by another RBI single by Bledsoe that scored 2B Danielle Romine. The three Jackets who got a hit in the game were SS Ryan Cook, RF Sara Schmid, and a double by 2B Erica Everson.
BHSU's Kaitlin Farrar pitched 5.2 innings and gave up just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Brittany Geersen was the losing pitcher after giving up the three runs in the first before being replaced by Farrar.
GAME 2
The Jackets were once again held scoreless by the CCU in game two on Sunday after Keely Gray took to the mound to pick up her fourth win after pitching four innings and giving up five hits. Katie Edison closed the game out in the final three innings and surrendering just one hit to the Jackets.
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was 2B Katie Campo who finished 2-for-3 from the plate that included a double. 3B Alexis Shaffer also had a double before finishing 1-of-3 in the game. RF Katherine Drake also picked up a hit, as did LF Nia Shumpert and DH Erica Everson.
The Jackets did hold tough in the first four innings with the score just 2-0 heading in to the fifth inning. In the fifth, CCU got to work from the plate after scoring five runs that was sparked by a Sanzolone single to left field that scored two. CCU followed with a double-steal that scored Romine, as LF Kristina Ballante scored on a pass ball during the next at bat. DH Hannah Rapoport then had an RBI after grounding out before 3B Dana Rex scored.
Kaitlin Farrar took the loss for BHSU as she pitched four innings and was charged for four earned runs on seven CCU hits with three walks. Savanah Eckhardt then pitched the final two innings and gave up three more earned runs to go with a strikeout.
BHSU will again take on CCU tomorrow for a doubleheader that is set to begin at 11 a.m.
