MANKATO, Minn. – The Black Hills State University volleyball squad dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the Maverick Invitational in Mankato, Minnesota.
The Yellow Jackets fell to the host squad Minnesota State 3-0 then dropped the match against No. 19 Wayne State in straight sets.
The Yellow Jackets fell 29-27, 25-23 and 25-19 to MSU. Meghan Sipe led the way for BHSU with 11 kills while Holly Hamlin and Shelby Mayer each added nine kills. Mayer had a .438 attack percentage, a team high. Hamlin also had three blocks, a match high.
Chloe Zimmer had a team-high 31 assists while Sydney Ederhoff had 13 digs.
The Mavericks were led by Krista Hassing with 16 kills and a .500 kill percentage while Ellie Van De Steeg had 43 assists.
In Black Hills' second match of the day, No. 19 Wayne State proved to be too much winning the three sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-13. Danielle Torpey led the squad with seven kills while Hamlin added six.
The Yellow Jackets continue their three-week stretch on the road by opening the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule at Western State Colorado University on Thursday followed by matches with Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
