GUNNISON, COLO.—The Black Hills State University volleyball team made the nine-hour trek to Gunnison, Colo. to begin a two-game road stand with the Western State University Mountaineers on Friday night.
The Mountaineers and Yellow Jackets found themselves in a similar situation prior to the contest. Both teams came off a loss that snapped their longest winning streak of the season. The Mountaineers fell to Colorado Mesa 3-1 while BHSU couldn't overcome Regis in a 3-0 deficit on October 10.
History has been in the Yellow Jackets' favor in this match-up as they held a 3-0 record against Western State prior to the match. The Mountaineers finally found the win column in a 3-0 victory over BHSU.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-12, 3-7 RMAC while Western State improves to 7-13, 5-5 RMAC.

The Mountaineers notched each a pair of kills and service aces en route to a 4-0 lead in set one. The Yellow Jackets narrowed the Western State lead to 20-19, thanks to Shelby Mayer's three kills.
Tori Gaherty responded with a pair of kills down the stretch to help Western State secure a 25-20 win in set one.
Back-to-back Yellow Jacket attack errors gave the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead in set two. It was a lead Western State wouldn't surrender for the remainder of the set.
Torpey and Steele each registered a kill, followed by a Mountaineer attack error to cut the Western State lead to 7-6, but couldn't get over the hump. Jordan Eatwell added four kills to help the Mountaineers notch a 25-18 win in set two.
Set three saw seven different lead changes until a BHSU attack error put Western State in the driver's seat for good, making the score 9-8. Three Molly Hathan kills helped the Mountaineers widen their lead and secure a 25-19 set-three win.
Torpey led BHSU with six kills in the match.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action tomorrow, October 17 at CSU-Pueblo. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
