WSOC: Yellow Jackets Close Out Inaugural Season on the Road

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University soccer team closes out its inaugural season on Friday and Saturday on the road against Westminster and Colorado Mesa. Kick off on Friday is at 3 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. kick off on Sunday.

The Griffins own a 5-3-3 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and an 8-4-3 record overall. Madison Roemer leads the team in goals with nine and four of them are game winning goals.  She owns a .500 shot on goal percentage. Behind Roemer, Heidi Lorschider has five goals while Tiana Cerciello has one goal. Cerciello leads the team in assists with three while Roemer and two other players have two assists and Lorschider has one.

Breanna Empey has been the main starter in net for the Griffins. She has tallied 32 saves with a .762 save percentage. Empey owns an 8-2-3 record along with five shutouts. Westminster was picked to finish sixth in the conference and currently rank in the number six spot.

The Mavericks are 6-4-1 in the RMAC and 8-6-2 overall. Alexis Allard and Mackenzie King lead the team in goals with three each. King owns a .577 shot on goal percentage. Amanda Wenzel is right behind Allard and King with two goals and both of them were game winning and has tallied one assist while Hallie Bergeron has two goals as well with both of hers being game winners as well. Four other players have assisted in the Mavericks offense with one goal while Lauryn Lee leads the team in assists with two.

Katelyn Houston owns 904 minutes in the net with a 6-2-1 record and three shutouts. Houston has stopped 27 shots and tallied a .750 save percentage. Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, Janelle Richmond-Buccola has the other 605 minutes in net with a 2-4-1 record and three shutouts as well. Richmond-Buccola has registered 31 saves and a .816 save percentage. The Mavericks were picked to finish 10th in the conference and currently stand in the fifth spot.

Black Hills State enters the weekend with a 0-10 conference record and 1-14 overall. Katie Nielson has led the team in goals with five and a .615 shot on goal percentage. Behind Nielson, Rose Miller leads the team in assists with three and has tallied three goals with one game winning. Emma Jurewicz is right behind Miller with two goals and one assist while two other players have contributed to the Yellow Jacket offense with one goal.

Freshman Therese Wilhelmi leads the conference in saves with 123 and an 8.79 save average. Wilhelmi has a .750 save percentage and has been the main starter for the Yellow Jackets in net.  Raven Johnson owns 405 minutes in net with 45 saves and a .643 save percentage.

Sunday's game will have live video to give Yellow Jacket fans a final chance to watch the inaugural team in action.
