SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball fell in its second home match 3-1 against Fort Lewis.
The Yellow Jackets dropped three out of four sets losing sets one and two, winning set three and lost in the fourth. Â The sets went as follows: 25-17, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.
In the third set, the Yellow Jackets gained momentum as they were down 2-0. Â The Skyhawks battled tough trading points with BHSU until 14-all. Â From there, the Yellow Jackets maintained the lead and ended up scoring six straight points. Â With the Yellow Jackets leading 19-18, FLC's Ally Dell'Amico had an attack error to give BHSU a two-point lead. Â Lacy Stevens served five straight times with kills by Kenzie Kazmer, Sierra Stugelmeyer and Cheyenne Palu. Â Both Cheyenne Palu and Stugelmeyer registered block assists at 22-18. Â BHSU won the set at 25-18.Â
On the offense, both Sierra Stugelmeyer and Cheyenne Palu each registered 10 kills with Palu recording a .269 hitting percentage. Â Brynn Eckhardt recorded a double-double with 34 assists and 19 digs. The team registered a total of 16 kills in the third set averaging a .343 hitting percentage.
On the defensive side, Lacy Stevens registered 30 digs. Â Alongside Stevens, Palu recorded 11 blocks, four of them solo, and Fehrin Ward registered six blocks. Â The team as a whole recorded 18 blocks.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in the conference. Fort Lewis improves to 3-7 on the season and 3-0 in the RMAC.
Black Hills State travels on the road to CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands on September 23 and 24. Â First serve on Friday is at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 6 p.m.
