Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University soccer team fell 7-2 against New Mexico Highlands Friday afternoon at Ronnie Theisz Field.
New Mexico Highlands came out with a strong attack in the fifth minute and took an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Salina Lucero rebounded off of Danielle Acuna's missed shot. The Yellow Jackets attacked back to tie the game 1-1 in the 18th minute with Rose Miller passing a through ball to Katie Nielson who put it into the center of the net giving Nielson her fourth goal of the season.
The Yellow Jackets were down when New Mexico Highlands committed a foul inside the 18-yard box giving Black Hills State a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Molly Lauseng pocketed the penalty kick in the right corner making that her first goal of the season.
Black Hills State fired off 8 shots. Jessica Ryan had two attempts with one shot landing on frame. Tori Dungey fired off one shot that landed on frame as well.
Therese Wilhelmi and Raven Johnson split the time in the net and combined for 16 saves.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-6-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in the conference while New Mexico Highlands improves to 1-5-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in the RMAC.
Black Hills State plays again on Sunday in Rapid City at 1 p.m. hosting Colorado State University-Pueblo.
