LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team lost for the second straight night against the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-0.
The Cowgirls took all three sets: 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22.
In set one, the Yellow Jackets and the Cowgirls were trading off points until 17-all. BHSU took a two-point lead 19-17 but NMHU ended up responding with six straight points to take the lead 19-22 eventually ending the set 25-21.
The third set, the Yellow Jackets held a 20-15 lead but it was not enough to overcome the Cowgirls attack. New Mexico Highlands scored four straight points to come within one of Black Hills State as the two teams traded off points until NMHU ended it 25-22 with four more straight points.
Brynn Eckhardt lead the way again on offense as she recorded 26 more assists on the season along with seven kills. Sierra Stugelmeyer worked alongside Eckhardt leading the team in kills with eight and a hitting percentage of .412.
On defense, Lacy Stevens recorded 10 more digs on the season. Fehrin Ward, Ellise Lech, and Cheyenne Palu each recorded four blocks.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-9 on the season and 0-4 in the RMAC while NMHU improves to 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
Black Hills State continues travelling next weekend to Colorado Mines, Colorado Christian and Augustana.Â
