WBB: Yellow Jackets Return Home to Start 2017

 
 
 THE GAME - New Mexico Highlands
 
  • The two teams meet for the fifth time on the hardwood with a tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. BHSU leads in the all-time series, 4-0.
  • Kaylani Maiava and Ari Baca are the top two leaders for the Cowgirls. Maiava averages 12.5 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Baca is averaging 11.3 points per game.
  • New Mexico Highlands was selected to finish 14th in the conference and currently rank 14th in the con­ference.
 
THE GAME - CSU-Pueblo
 
  • The two teams meet for the second time in a week on the hardwood. The No. 9 ThunderWolves defeated the Yellow Jackets a week ago, 66-55 to lead in the conference series 1-0.
  • Tuileisu Anderson, Molly Rohrer and Katie Cunningham are the top three leaders for CSU-Pueblo. Ander­son and Rohrer are the leading scorers averaging 17.8 and 14.3 points per game, respectively. Cunning­ham averages 9.4 rebounds per game. All three players have earned RMAC Player of the Week honors. Anderson and Rohrer were also selected for the Preseason All-RMAC team.
  • CSU-Pueblo was picked as the Preseason favorite as selected by the RMAC Coaches and they currently hold an undefeated record and rank ninth and 11th respectively in the WBCA and D2SIDA polls.
 
THE COACHES
 
  • Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore owns a 255- 165 record over 15 seasons with the Yellow Jackets. He is the all-time wins' leader for Yellow Jacket basketball.
  • Joseph Anders enters his first season with the Cowgirls. Anders comes from the University of New Mexico where he served as the assistant coach for four seasons where he served as a recruiter and worked on player development.
  • Jim Turgeon enters his second season with the ThunderWolves. Turgeon made school history in his first season leading the Pack to a program record of 26 wins and earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament making that the highest seed ever in program history.
LAST TIME OUT
 
Black Hills State split the weekend against CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian, losing Friday 66-55 and defeating the Cougars on Saturday, 65-55.

Abby Switzer registered the first team and her first career double-double against CCU. Switzer tied her season and career-high scoring 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Alongside Switzer, Kassidy Scott totaled 23 total points over the weekend while Rachel Erickson tallied 22 points.
 
On defense, Scott dominated on the boards grabbing 15 total rebounds while Switzer was right behind with 12.

CAREER GAME FOR SWITZER
 
Abby Switzer had a standout performance against Colorado Christian registering the first team and her first career double-double. The true freshman grabbed 11 rebounds for a team high and tied her season and career-high 14 points in a season-high 30 minutes of action. Switzer recorded her best game yet as a true freshman. Switzer was one of the top leading scorers against Chadron State scoring 14 points alongside Sierra Toms. Switzer went 5-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in 21 minutes of action.
 
RANKED OPPONENTS
 
Since joining the RMAC and in the NCAA era, Black Hills State is 1-1 against a ranked opponent. The Green and Gold defeated No. 14 Colorado Mesa, 86-81 in the 2014-15 season and lost to No. 9 CSU-Pueblo on December 30, 2016.
 
SCORING 70+ POINTS OR BETTER
 
The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 when scoring 70 or 80+ points in a game. The Green and Gold were one-point shy of 80 against Chadron State and scored over 80 points defeating Colorado Mines but the Yellow Jackets shot 40 percent or better to earn both of those wins.
 
SHOOTING 45 PERCENT OR BETTER
 
The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 when shooting 45 percent or better from the field. Against Colorado Mines, the Green and Gold shot 50 percent from the field and 85 percent from the line in their first victory of the season.
