SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University triathlon team is set to compete in the Pumpkinman Triathlon in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, October 21.

Mathilde Bernard, Emma Stone, Johanna Mitchell, Cayley Schmitt, Katie Christy, Kaylee Lamb, and Taylor Ihmels will all be competing in the sprint triathlon this weekend. It will be the final competition of the season for freshmen Mitchell and Stone.

Bernard has led the Yellow Jackets this season, being the top finisher at all three triathlons this year. Bernard was the top overall performer at the season opening Southern Hills Triathlon, before finishing as the second overall female competitor at the Littlefoot Triathlon. At the NCAA East Region Qualifier on Oct. 7, Bernard helped lead the Green and Gold to a second place finish with a second place individual finish. The Alberta, Canada, native was named the All-Region Freshman Athlete, and was named to the All-Region Team.

Kaylee Lamb was also named to the All-Region Team after placing sixth in 1:13.24. Katie Christy was 10th, Cayley Schmitt was 12th, and Taylor Ihmels was 14th in Division II at the East Region Qualifier.

The competition will be the final tune up before the Women's Collegiate Championship, which will be held in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday, November 5. Bernard, Schmitt, Christy, Lamb, and Ihmels all qualified for the National Championship due to their performances at the East Region Qualifier.
