SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to Adams State, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets trailed, 1-0, at the half.
The Grizzlies (2-6-2, 1-5-1 RMAC) jumped out to a quick, 1-0, lead, just two minutes into the game. After a BHSU foul, Natalie Wheelock put her free kick into the top corner, to give the visitor's the lead.
The Yellow Jackets (0-11, 0-6 RMAC) spent most of the first half on the front foot, taking four shots, three of which were on goal. However, the Green and Gold were unable to break through, and entered halftime trailing.
ASU doubled its lead in the 55th minute, after scoring on a rebound. The Grizzlies added three goals in 10 minutes, between the 75th and 85th minutes, to take a 5-0 lead, which they would hold on to in order to earn their first conference victory this season.
Black Hills State was outshot by ASU, 19-7, and the Grizzlies also took more corner kicks (10-2). GoalkeeperÂ
Raven Johnson (0-7) played all 90 minutes in goal. She allowed five goals, while making six saves. Natalie Wheelock, Kendall Weld (2), Lourdes Padilla, and Lacey Daniel scored for Adams State.
The Yellow Jackets go back on the road for a weekend, taking on Regis on Friday, October 13, and MSU Denver on Sunday, October 15. Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., while Sunday is set to kickoff at noon.
