VB: Yellow Jackets Head to Rapid City for Rivalry Match Against Hardrockers

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team heads to Rapid City, South Dakota, to take on rival South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, October 10. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

This is the 26th meeting between the two teams dating as far back as 2007. Black Hills State leads the all-time series, 17-8. Since joining the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2012, BHSU leads the series, 8-3.

South Dakota Mines owns a 2-16 record on the season, and is 0-8 in RMAC action.

Mikkella Reese leads the offense with 140 kills and a 2.55 kill per set average. In 55 sets played, Reese has notched 19 service aces, making her sixth in the conference in that category. Emma Eckel works alongside Reese, and has tallied 320 assists, with a 7.27 assist per set average.

On defense, Alye Wagner leads the way with 209 digs, and a 3.54 dig per set average. Emily Newton, a 2016 Honorable Mention recipient, has registered 40 blocks, with a 0.68 block per set average.

The Yellow Jackets enter the match with a 6-11 record, and are 3-5 in the RMAC.

On offense, Laurel Lech leads the way with 617 assists and an 8.81 assist per set average. Lech ranks sixth in the conference for total assists, and ninth for assists per set. Ellise Lech works alongside her sister on the offense, notching 156 kills and a 2.23 kill per set average.

Sydney Ederhoff leads the way on defense with 314 digs and a 4.49 dig per set average. Ederhoff leads the conference for total digs, and ranks fourth for digs per set. Cheyenne Palu works alongside Ederhoff and has registered 81 blocks with a 1.16 blocks per set. Palu total blocks leads the conference and ranks second for blocks per set.

Following the match against SD Mines, the Green and Gold head to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on Westminster College on Saturday, October 14. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
