VB: No. 8 BHSU Heads to No. 1 Regis for First Round of RMAC Tournament

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's volleyball team earned its first postseason bid in school history after Chadron State lost both of its matches on Friday and Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets will head to Denver, Colorado, to take on the No. 1 seed, Regis, on Tuesday, November 14. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

Regis University and Colorado Mines are the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Co-Champions after finishing the regular season 17-1 in conference. Regis edged out Mines with its overall record at 25-3, while Mines ended at 23-4.

The Rangers earned the No. 1 seed after closing out the regular season with a victory over Colorado Mesa University on Saturday night.

Kelsey Green leads the Rangers with 306 kills and a 3.03 kill per set average in 28 matches played. Silvia Basso works alongside Green with 1131 assists and an 11.09 assist per set average.

On defense, Kristina Schell has notched 408 digs with a 4.00 dig per set average. Nikki Kennedy has blocked 134 shots with a 1.31 block per set average.

For the Yellow Jackets, Ellise Lech leads the offense with 267 kills and a 2.45 kill per set average. Laurel Lech has registered 973 assists with an 8.93 per set average.

Sydney Ederhoff leads the Green and Gold defense with 486 digs and a 4.46 dig per set average. Alongside Ederhoff, Cheyenne Palu has recorded 133 blocks with a 1.22 per set average.

"We are so excited to be playing in the RMAC Quarterfinals," said head coach Kristin Carmichael. "It has been a goal of the program to reach the playoffs, and this team has worked very hard to reach that goal. Our new season starts tomorrow and we are ready to work towards our new goal of winning a conference tournament match!"

No. 2 seed Colorado Mines will host No. 7 Adams State University, No. 3 seed Metropolitan State University Denver will host No. 6 Colorado Mesa, and the final match in the quarterfinals will be a head-to-head battle between the No. 4 seed Colorado Christian University and the No. 5 seed University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

The Yellow Jackets earned the No. 8 seed after defeating South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, November 7, and with Chadron State dropping two matches on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11.
