Men's basketball falls to Wolves for first loss of season

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell to Northern State, 68-46, on Monday evening. The game was the first loss of the season for the Yellow Jackets.

Dez Stoudamire led the way for the Yellow Jackets (3-1) with eight points. Fraser Malcolm was right behind with seven points and 10 rebounds. It was Malcolm's third game with double-figure boards.

The Wolves (4-1) jumped out to a 10-0 lead, forcing BHSU to take a timeout. The Yellow Jackets fought back to pull within three points at 19-16, with seven minutes remaining in the half. However, NSU went on a 24-4 run to end the half, and took a 43-20 lead into the break.

The Yellow Jackets were unable to chip away in the second half, as the Wolves slowly extended its lead. BHSU, who had made 29 three-pointers in the three previous games combined, could only knock down three shots from beyond the arc.

BHSU shot 32.1 percent from the field (17-for-53), while NSU was 40.7 percent from the floor (22-for-54). The Yellow Jackets were 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Wolves were 12-for-31 (38.7 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold held a narrow 39-37 edge in rebounding.

Four players, Pollard, King, Peterka, and Doyle, had 11 points for the Wolves.

The Green and Gold next travel to Ogden, Utah, to take on Division I Weber State in an exhibition game. The game, on Saturday, November 25 is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m.
