VB: BHSU Welcomes SD Mines in Final Home Game of 2017 Season

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team hosts its final home game of the season against South Dakota School of Mines on Tuesday, November 7. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets are on the verge of making postseason for the first time in school history, as they are tied in eighth place with Chadron State, with a record of 7-9 in conference action, and 10-15 overall.

Over the weekend, the Yellow Jackets fell in back to back matches against Regis and Chadron State by scores of 3-1.

South Dakota Mines enters the match on Tuesday with a 1-14 conference record, and is 3-23 on the season.

Mikkella Reese leads the offense with 232 kills and a 2.08 kill per set average. Emma Eckel works alongside Reese and has notched 483 assists, and has a 7.79 assist per set average, playing in 20 out of the 26 matches that Mines has played. Allie Boggs is second on the team with 256 assists in 15 matches.

On defense, Alye Wagner has tallied 348 digs with a 4.00 dig per set average. Anna Breidt has registered 54 blocks, while Emily Newton is right behind with 49, 10 of which are solo.

The Yellow Jackets' Ellise Lech leads the offense with 243 kills and a 2.41 kill per set average. Laurel Lech works alongside her sister, as she has tallied 905 assists with an 8.96 per set average.

Defensively, Sydney Ederhoff has registered 457 digs, with a 4.52 dig per set average. Cheyenne Palu has recorded 123 blocks, and ranks second in the conference. Palu averages 1.22 blocks per set.

Following Tuesday's match, the Green and Gold head to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, on Friday, November 10. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
