Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB: Capley and Malcolm record double-doubles, BHSU cruises

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Fraser Malcolm and Antonio Capley each recorded a double-double, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team defeated Colorado State University-Pueblo, 78-54, on Saturday evening.

Capley scored 15 points and pulled down 12 boards for his first career double-double to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets (7-4, 4-3 RMAC). Malcolm scored 14 points and recorded 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year. Connor O'Hearn added 14 points and had six assists.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with BHSU holding as much as a six point lead in the first four minutes, before the ThunderWolves (5-8, 2-5 RMAC) came back to lead by as many as nine points, 28-19, with 5:51 remaining in the half. At that point, Capley made a lay-up and converted the and-one to begin a 9-0 run to tie the game with 2:54 remaining. The home team led, 36-33, at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets began the second half on a 15-1 run which helped them take control of the game. Dez Stoudamire hit a three-pointer with 8:49 remaining to give the Green and Gold a 20-point lead, 62-42. Stout defense led to easy buckets for BHSU down the stretch, as they eventually won by 24, 78-54.

BHSU shot 48.3 percent from the field (28-for-58), while CSUP was 31.1 percent from the floor (19-for-61). The Yellow Jackets were 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) from beyond the arc, while the ThunderWolves were 9-for-32 (28.1 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 16-for-20 (80.0 percent) from the free throw line, and CSU-Pueblo was 7-for-14 (50.0 percent) from the charity stripe. The Green and Gold held a commanding 55-25 margin in rebounding, including a 17-8 mark in offensive rebounds.  

Will Newman led the ThunderWolves with 14 points.

The Green and Gold next go on the road, traveling to New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo on January 5 and 6.
