SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team travels to Colorado State University-Pueblo for a four game series Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 with first pitch slated for noon and 11 a.m., respectively.
Sophomore catcher Michaela Burpee has played and started all 12 of the ThunderWolves games so far this season. Burpee owns a .395 batting average and has registered 15 hits in 38 at-bats. Burpee has tallied nine RBIs and four home runs to lead the ThunderWolves offense.
First baseman and outfielder Christa Angers owns a .971 fielding percentage. In 12 games played and started, Angers has tallied 95 putouts with four assists. At the plate, Angers has tallied two home runs and six RBIs in 30 at-bats with just nine hits.
In the circle, senior Lexie Martindale has all three wins for the ThunderWolves. In 32.2 innings pitched, Martindale has tallied 17 strikeouts and three complete games.
CSU-Pueblo is 3-9 on the season and 0-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The ThunderWolves were picked to finish fifth in the conference after finishing with a 17-19 RMAC record last season.
Morgan Smith and
Kindall Bethke of Black Hills State each own a batting average of .353 to lead the Yellow Jacket offense. They have each tallied 12 hits in 34 at-bats. Smith has earned 10 runs and two RBIs. Bethke has tallied seven RBIs and five doubles.
First baseman
Pamela Sakuma has tallied 83 putouts with two assists. Sakuma owns a .988 fielding percentage. At the plate, Sakuma has registered seven hits with five RBIs.
Stefanie Witman and
Alex Wiley split time in the circle. Witman owns two wins for the Yellow Jackets with 23 strikeouts in 29.0 innings pitched. Witman has pitched two complete games with five starts. Wiley owns one win for the Green and Gold with 23 strikeouts in 34.0 innings pitched. Wiley has registered four complete games and one shutout.
Black Hills State started the season 3-9 and 1-3 in RMAC action after falling in three games at Adams State.
Following CSU-Pueblo, the Yellow Jackets make their home debut March 11 and 12 hosting Colorado Christian for a four-game series. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for noon and Sunday at 11 a.m.
