SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team travels to Chadron State for a four-game series March 25 and 26 with first pitch slated for noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Chadron State currently sits in seventh place in the conference with an 11-15 record on the season and 8-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Eagles were picked to finish third in the conference in the preseason poll after finishing 21-11 in the conference and 29-19-1 overall.
Senior shortstop Courtney Lecher was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team and ranks second on the team with a .333 batting average. In 26 games, Lecher has tallied a home run, nine RBIs and 14 runs in 28 hits in 84 at-bats.
Leading the Eagle offense is senior outfielder Lindsey Karlin with a .397 batting average. Karlin has played in 25 games tallying 12 RBIs and two home runs with 25 hits in 63 at-bats.
In the circle, freshmen Jessica Jarecki leads the pitchers with a 3.15 era and a 6-5 record. In 75.2 innings pitched, Jarecki has struck out 57 batters. In 12 starts, Jarecki has pitched eight complete games with one shutout.
Black Hills State owns a 3-17 record on the season and 1-11 in RMAC action.
Sophomore outfielder
Morgan Smith leads the team with a .356 batting average. With 21 hits in 59 at-bats, Smith has tallied four RBIs and has scored 12 runs. Smith leads the team in stolen bases with seven out of nine attempts.
In the circle, sophomore
Alex Wiley has made 11 appearances with 10 starts. In 60.2 innings pitched, Wiley has eight complete games with one shutout. Wiley has tallied 34 strikeouts. Joining Wiley in the circle is senior
Stefanie Witman. Witman owns a 4.52 era to lead the pitchers with nine starts. In 48 innings pitched, Witman has 40 strikeouts and five complete games.
Following the weekend, Black Hills State returns home April 1 and 2 to host New Mexico Highlands. First pitch is slated for noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
