Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to Minot State, 6-0, to open the 2017 season on Thursday evening.
Rose Miller had three shots to lead the Yellow Jackets (0-1), while
Katie Nielson and
Mikayla Hernandez each recorded two shots. Hernandez had the only Black Hills State shot on goal.
The Beavers (1-0) jumped ahead in the third minute, and added another goal 10 minutes later. BHSU settled into the game around the 15th minute, playing more in the attacking third and forcing a save from Beaver goalkeeper Erin Rafferty, but Minot State added a goal in the 34th minute to go up 3-0 at halftime.
The second half started the same as the first, with the Yellow Jackets allowing two goals in the 47th and 50th minutes. Despite BHSU connecting on more passes and making the Beavers defend for significant blocks of time, the Yellow Jackets were unable to find a goal. Minot State extended their lead to 6-0 in the 85th minute.

Raven Johnson (0-1) played the first half for the Yellow Jackets, allowing three goals in 45 minutes, and making three saves.
Therese Wilhelmi played the second half, allowing three goals and recording two saves. Jordyn Cook (2), Haley Berryman, Morgan Myers, and Sofia Lewis (2) tallied the goals for Minot State.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, September 2. BHSU travels to Northern State, with kick off scheduled for 3 p.m.
