WSOC: Yellow Jackets Fall in RMAC Opener to Western State

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell in its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener against Western State University by a score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon.

In the third minute, Western State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead off a goal by Paige Massey. Massey received a pass from Jessica Kresl at the top of the box and placed it into the upper left corner of the net.

The Mountaineers continued their momentum, as they increased their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute of the first half. Ingrid Alvarez made a pass to Jessica Kresl, who took a shot from the center of the box and hit the back of the net.

At the half, the Green and Gold trailed 6-0, and were unable to find their momentum in the second, as they fell 7-0.

The Yellow Jackets took nine shots and landed five shots on goal. Rose Miller led the way, taking two shots and having both land on goal. Jamy Shassetz, Morgan Wood, and Jayden Judy each contributed with shots on goal as well for the Green and Gold.

Therese Wilhelmi and Raven Johnson split the time in net. Wilhelmi (0-2) took the loss, while registering four saves. Johnson had six saves, allowing one goal.

Black Hills State returns to action on Sunday, September 17 to take on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Kickoff is set for noon.
