SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell to Augustana University on Tuesday afternoon, 3-0.
The scores went as follows: 25-22, 25-16, and 25-20.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-7 on the season, while the Lady Vikings improve to 10-5.
In set one, the two teams traded off points until 9-all, when a kill gave the go-ahead point to Augustana at 10-9. From there, the Vikings jumped out to a six-point lead at 19-13. The Yellow Jackets came within two at 19-17, but it was not enough, as Augustana closed out the set at 25-22, and took the lead in the match, 1-0.
In the second set, the two teams traded off points until 4-all, when the Vikings, once again, went ahead by one point at 5-4. The Yellow Jackets kept it close until 14-12, when Augustana went on a 4-0 run to lead by six at 18-12. From there, the Vikings closed out the set at 25-16, and led 2-0 in the match.
In the third and final set, Augustana jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, until a kill by
Kenzie Kazmer put the Green and Gold on the board. Trailing 9-3 in the set, the Yellow Jackets managed to reel it in and tie it up at 12. That was not enough, as Augustana's momentum was too much, and the Vikings ended the set at 25-20, and the match at 3-0.
Ellise Lech led the offense with nine kills, while
Sierra Stugelmeyer and
Kenzie Kazmer were right behind with eight and seven kills, respectively.
Laurel Lech tallied 28 assists.
On defense,
Tara Hall notched 11 digs while
Sydney Ederhoff had 10. Stugelmeyer and
Cheyenne Palu worked alongside Hall and Ederhoff, each recording five blocks.
Black Hills State returns to the Young Center to complete its home stand against Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian University on September 29 and 30. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
