Women's soccer drops match at Wayne State

WAYNE, Neb. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to Wayne State, 5-0, on Monday afternoon.

Morgan Wood had two shots to lead the Yellow Jackets (0-3), while Rose Miller and Danielle Heerts each recorded a shot as well.

The Wildcats (1-1-1) jumped on top in the 10th minute, scoring on a shot from the right side of the box. The match remained fairly even for the next thirty minutes, but Wayne State doubled its lead in the 40th minute. Seconds before the halftime whistle, WSC extended its lead to 3-0.

The second half started out in much the same way as the first, with the Wildcats scoring 10 minutes into the half to take a 4-0 lead in the 55th minute. Wayne State added another insurance goal in the 90th minute. The Yellow Jackets best chance came in the 85th minute, when Rose Miller had space to take a shot from the top of the box. However, the shot went just high of the crossbar.

Black Hills State was outshot by Wayne State, 24-4, and the Wildcats also took more corner kicks (8-0). Goalkeeper Therese Wilhelmi (0-1) played the first half for the Yellow Jackets, allowing three goals in 45 minutes, and making four saves. Zoe Baldwin played the second half, allowing two goals and recording two saves. Hannah Knight (2), Megan Shuster, Madison Burgard, and Shelby Bullard scored the goals for WSC.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, September 8, against Montana State-Billings. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
