SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University rodeo team has a full weekend ahead of them as they are taking to the road to compete at Sisseton Wahpeton in Sisseton, S.D., October 11 and 12, and then to Fargo, N.D., to compete at North Dakota State University October 13 and 14.
The team sets off after competing at the Triton Stampede in Fort Dodge, Iowa, September 28 and 29. The women took first place with a record score for BHSU of 1000 points, while the men's team took fourth place with 255 points.
Alyssa Lockhart won the women's all-around with 400 points.
The men's team is ranked third in the region with 955 points. The women's team holds the number one position in the region with 1985 points, while also being second in the nation.
In tie-down roping,
Carson Johnston is ranked third in the region with 150 points, with
Colton Backhaus close behind in fifth with 140 points, and
Collin Palmer ranked ninth in the region with 80 points.
With 80 points,
Carson Johnston is in eighth place in the region for steer wrestling. Tucker Cythka is 13th with 40 points.
With 110 points in team roping as a header,
Collin Palmer is ranked eighth in the region,
Carlee Johnston is in 10th place with 80 points, and
Jordan Staton is in 15th with 40 points. For the heelers,
Chandler Comfort is second with 205 points,
Colton Backhaus is eighth with 110 points, and
Reed Marmon is 15th with 40 points.
In the women's all around,
Alyssa Lockhart is in first place with 740 points, and
KeAnna Ward is in second with 500 points.
Alyssa Lockhart holds the lead in the women's barrel racing with 380 points.
Tayle Brink is in fourth place with 165 points.
Carlee Johnston and
Taylor Hanson are tied for fifth place with 160 points.
Cedar Jandreau is in seventh place with 110 points, and
Jada Maher comes in ninth with 60 points.
In the breakaway,
Alyssa Lockhart leads the scoreboard with 260 points, followed by
KeAnna Ward and
Courtney Peters with 220 points, and
Cora Borman with 200 points.
Jada Maher is in fifth place with 130 points, while
Carlee Johnston is tied with Lacey Forsness from Dickensen for eighth place with 90 points.
Tayle Brink is close behind in 10th place with 80 points.
Keesha Geiger is ranked 15th with 40 points.
Emilee Pauley,
Carlee Johnston, and
KeAnna Ward are tied for second place in the women's goat tying event with 280 points. In fifth place is
Tayle Brink with 210 points, followed by
Alyssa Lockhart with 100 points.
Taylor Hanson is in ninth place with 42 points, with
Cedar Jandreau right behind her with 40 points. With 30 points,
Opal Harkins is in 11th.
Sarah Scott is in 13th with 22 points, and
Cora Borman comes in 14th with 20 points.
Following this weekend's rodeos, the team will be traveling to Ames, Iowa, to compete at Iowa State University on October 19 and 20.
