Soccer set for tilt with Rangers

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team travels to Regis on October 15 to play a single Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match this weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., in Denver.

Scouting the Rangers (6-4-2, 5-3 RMAC)

Regis University is located in Denver, Colorado. They most recently fell to CSU-Pueblo, 2-1, after defeating New Mexico Highlands, 3-1. The Rangers are currently scoring 1.33 goals per game, while allowing 0.83 goals per game.

Cat Devitt leads the squad with four goals, while also adding an assist. Tori Rinsem has tallied three goals and two assists, while Keegan Storlie and Natasha Wehner have each scored twice. Emily Ramos leads the Rangers in assists, with eight, and points, with 10, while also recording a goal. Her eight assists are tops in the RMAC. Julia Coombs (6-4-2) has played all but 11 minutes in net for Regis. She has allowed 10 goals in 1123 minutes, making 47 saves with a .825 save percentage. She has six shutouts on the year, which is tied for second most in the league.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-12-1, 0-7-1 RMAC)

Black Hills State University was edged in a pair of home games last weekend. Colorado State University-Pueblo took Friday's match, 3-2, before New Mexico Highlands defeated BHSU, 5-4, in overtime on Sunday. The game against the Thunderwolves was tied, 2-2, at halftime, but CSUP was the only team able to score in the second half to earn the victory. Against the Cowgirls, the Yellow Jackets were up 3-0 at halftime, but NMHU outscored BHSU, 3-1, in the second half to send the game to overtime, where New Mexico Highlands scored the golden goal in the 97th minute of the game.

Katie Nielson scored both goals against the Thunderwolves, while also tallying a goal and an assist against the Cowgirls. Morgan Smith had a goal against NMHU and an assist against CSUP, while Rachel Erickson and Alexandria Lisenbe both also scored in Sunday's high-scoring match.    

Mikayla Hernandez and Katie Nielson each have three goals and an assist to lead the Yellow Jackets with seven points. Rachel Erickson has scored twice, while Rose Miller, Ella Goodman, Morgan Smith, Alexandria Lisenbe, and Stephanie Stagner have each tallied a goal for BHSU this season. Miller leads the Yellow Jackets with three assists. Teagen Hartley (0-3-1) has allowed 14 goals in 453 minutes. She has a .774 save percentage, which is ninth in the league, while making 48 saves (sixth in the RMAC) in net. The freshman's 8.0 saves per game is ranked number one in the conference. Zoe Baldwin (0-7) has played 532 minutes, allowing 26 goals and making 45 saves.

Following Monday's game, the Green and Gold head on their final road trip of the season, taking on nationally ranked No. 4 Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian on Oct. 19 and 20.
