SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University rodeo teams head to Ames, Iowa, to compete at the Iowa State University Rodeo on October 19-20.
The Yellow Jacket women enter the weekend in first place in the Great Plains Region with 2,150 points, which puts them in second place nationally. In the women's all-around, Alyssa Lockhart is in first with 740 points, and KeAnna Ward is in second with 665 points. Lockhart's point total put her in fourth nationally for all-around.
Lockhart currently sits in first place in barrel racing in the region, and tied for 10th nationally, with 380 points, more than a hundred points in front of the next competitor. Tayler Brink (165) is in fourth, while Carlee Johnston and Taylor Hanson each have 160 points to be in a tie for fifth.
Yellow Jackets currently hold the top four spots in the Great Plains in breakaway roping, led by Cora Borman with 300 points. Borman also sits in a tie for seventh nationally. Lockhart and Courtney Peters are tied for second with 260 points, and Ward is fourth with 220 points. Sarah Scott and Jada Maher are tied for sixth in the event with 130 points.
In goat tying, Ward sits in the lead of the region, and seventh nationally, with 445 points. Emilee Pauley (340), Carlee Johnston (280), and Brink (210) are in third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
The men's team sits in third place in the region with 1,245 points.
Carson Johnston is currently in second place in tie down roping with 300 points, while Colton Backhaus is in seventh with 140 points. Johnston's total is good enough to put him in a tie for 11th nationally.
As header in team roping, Collin Palmer sits in 10th with 110 points, while Chandler Comfort is second as heeler with 205 points. Backhaus is tied for ninth as a heeler with 110 points.
Following this weekend's competition at Iowa State, the Green and Gold will wrap up the fall season at Sisseton Wahpeton, which was postponed until Nov. 1-2.
