SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team is set to wrap up the 2018 season this weekend. The Yellow Jackets welcome No. 17 ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs on October 25, before hosting MSU Denver on October 27. Thursday's match is set to kick off at 7 p.m., while Saturday will kick off at 1:30 p.m.
Senior Night
Thursday evening will act as senior night for the lone senior on the Yellow Jackets. Rachel Erickson, who joined the soccer squad after playing four years on the Yellow Jacket women's basketball team, will be honored for her contributions during the 2018 season.
Scouting the Mountain Lions (12-2-1, 10-1 RMAC)
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is currently ranked No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Mountain Lions most recently defeated MSU Denver, 3-0, and Colorado Christian, 2-0. Their lone conference loss came at the hands of nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines, a 2-1 overtime loss. The team scores an RMAC-high 2.67 goals per game, while allowing just 0.60 goals per game this season.
Tarah Petterson leads the Mountain Lions with 22 points, scoring eight goals and tallying a team-high six assists. Anna Gregg has nine goals to lead the squad and sit third in the conference, while adding two assists. Tori Maydew (seven goals), Savannah Mills (four goals, one assist), Amelia Junge (four goals), and Madison Tominello (two goals, three assists) have all recorded multiple goals for UCCS. In goal, Kaylyn Smith (12-2-1) has played all but 20 minutes for the Mountain Lions. She has allowed nine goals while making 43 saves. She has eight shutouts on the season with a 0.60 goals against average, and a .827 save percentage.
Scouting the Roadrunners (9-5-1, 7-4 RMAC)
Metropolitan State University of Denver currently sits in fourth place in RMAC standings, having already clinched a spot in the tournament. The Roadrunners enter the final two games the losers of two straight, falling to nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines, 2-1, and nationally ranked UCCS, 3-0. The team is scoring 2.0 goals per game, while holding a 0.93 goals against average as a squad.
Regina Banks leads the team and the conference with 13 goals scored. She also has tallied one assist, for 27 points on the year. Gabriella Gamboa (five goals, two assists), Paloma Teran (two goals, two assists), and Makenna Brassard (two goals) have all gotten on the scoresheet multiple times this year. Jessica Mooney has recorded six assists to lead MSUD. Erica Torres (9-5-1) has allowed 14 goals with a 0.91 goals against average in net. She has made 70 saves, and has tallied seven shutouts.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-15-1, 0-10-1 RMAC)
Black Hills State University most recently fell to No. 5 Colorado School of Mines, 7-0, and Colorado Christian, 2-0. The Yellow Jackets are scoring 0.81 goals per game, while allowing 3.94 goals per game.
Mikayla Hernandez and Katie Nielson each have three goals and an assist to lead the Yellow Jackets with seven points. Rachel Erickson has scored twice, while Rose Miller, Ella Goodman, Morgan Smith, Alexandria Lisenbe, and Stephanie Stagner have each tallied a goal for BHSU this season. Miller leads the Yellow Jackets with three assists. Teagen Hartley (0-5-1) has allowed 25 goals in 678 minutes. She has a .734 save percentage, while making 69 saves (fifth in the RMAC) in net. The freshman's 7.67 saves per game is ranked number one in the conference. Zoe Baldwin (0-8) has played 577 minutes, allowing 30 goals and making 49 saves. Â Â

BHSU trails the series with both teams, 2-0. In 2016, the Mountain Lions edged the Yellow Jackets, 4-3, in the first ever RMAC game for the Green and Gold. Â
Academic Honor Roll
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announce the conference academic awards on Wednesday. Four Yellow Jackets were named to the Honor Roll. Caitlin Kelly, Alexandria Lisenbe, Rose Miller, and Katie Nielson all earned the distinction by collecting at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA after spending at least one year at BHSU.
