Soccer welcomes Thunderwolves, Cowgirls

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team hosts a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches this weekend. The Yellow Jackets welcome Colorado State University-Pueblo on October 5 at 4 p.m., before playing New Mexico Highlands University on October 7 at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Thunderwolves (5-3-1, 2-3 RMAC)

Colorado State University-Pueblo is located in Pueblo Colorado. Most recently, the Thunderwolves defeated New Mexico Highlands (4-0) and Colorado Christian (4-3) after falling to then No. 7 ranked Colorado School of Mines (2-1). CSUP scores 2.0 goals per game, while allowing 1.56 goals per game.

Makenzie Bean leads the squad with five goals and three assists. Laikyn Koss (four goals, two assists) and Karley Whiteman (four goals) both have four goals for CSU-Pueblo. Rylie Martin (5-3-1) has allowed 13 goals in 797 minutes in net. She has made 44 saves, with a 1.47 goals against average.

Scouting the Cowgirls (0-8, 0-5 RMAC)

New Mexico Highlands University is located in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowgirls most recently fell to CSU-Pueblo, 4-0, and Colorado School of Mines, 2-0. NMHU is scoring 0.5 goals per game, while allowing 3.25 goals per match.

Tania Salcedo, Breanna Fatten, Nitza Rodriguez, Carly Griego have each scored for the Cowgirls, while four players have tallied an assist. Briana Ruelas (0-5) has allowed 18 minutes in 470 minutes in goal, while making 16 saves. Karina Vega (0-3) has played 250 minutes in net, making 16 saves and allowing eight goals.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-10-1, 0-5-1 RMAC)

Black Hills State University was edged by Western State, 3-1, before drawing with Colorado Mesa, 2-2, last weekend. The tie was the first ever tie for the program, which is in its third year of existence. Rose Miller, Ella Goodman, and Stephanie Stagner each scored over the weekend. The Yellow Jackets score 0.64 goals per game, while allowing 3.64 goals per game.  

Mikayla Hernandez leads the squad with three goals, and also has tallied one assist. Rachel Erickson, Rose Miller, Ella Goodman, and Stephanie Stagner have also scored for BHSU. Rose Miller has three assists for the Yellow Jackets. Zoe Baldwin (0-7) has allowed 26 goals in 532 minutes, while making 45 saves. Dz-Rae Jara (0-2) has allowed eight goals and made 13 saves in 210 minutes, while Teagen Hartley (0-1-1) has allowed six goals in 266 minutes, making 29 saves.
