SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team lost, 3-1, to Minnesota State – Moorhead, in its final match of the Augustana Invite tournament.  The Dragons won by scores of 28-26, 26-28, 25-19, and 25-13.
 
"Besides the fourth set, I was really pleased with how we stuck to the game plan and limited our errors," said head coach 
Kristin Carmichael. "It's hard to finish a quality weekend with a loss, but I'm really excited about the progress the team made.  We are excited to get our conference season started and play at home."
 
In the first set, MSU Moorhead took hold of an early, 9-5, lead.  An attack error by the Dragons, and kills from junior 
Laurel Lech and freshman 
Jadie DeLange put the Yellow Jackets ahead, 18-15.  Another kill for DeLange, and from 
Peyton Bodemann, as well as a service ace added to its lead.  The Dragons tied up the set, 25-25, and went on to win the set, 28-26.
 
The second set had back-and-forth action, with neither team setting a stable lead.  The Green and Gold went on a 3-0 run to lead, 21-18.  The set was tied up for the ninth time, but the Yellow Jackets pulled ahead to take the second set, 28-26. 
 
Black Hills State attacked early with a 6-2 lead in the third set.  MSU tied up the set, 11-11, and eventually went on a 4-0 run to lead by six.  The Dragons held on to its lead to win the third set, 25-19, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Dragons pulled another early lead in the fourth set, with the Yellow Jackets close behind.  MSU went on a 6-0 run to lead by seven to create a substantial lead and take the set, 25-13, and the match 3-1.
 
The Yellow Jackets will next kick off conference play against Westminster College and Dixie State on Sept. 7 and 8.  First serve is set at 7 p.m. at the Donald E. Young Center.
