Soccer opens RMAC play at Fort Lewis, Adams State

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team opens its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference slate of games this weekend. The Yellow Jackets travel to Fort Lewis on September 14, and Adams State on September 16. Friday's match is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m., while Sunday's game begins at noon.

Scouting the Skyhawks (1-2-1, 0-0 RMAC)

Fort Lewis College is located in Durango, Colorado. The Skyhawks have opened the season with a 1-2-1 record, defeating Eastern New Mexico (2-1), drawing with Midwestern State (2-2), and losing to Angelo State (4-0) and West Texas A&M (1-0). They are 1-1 at home. FLC is scoring 1.0 goals per game, while allowing 2.0 goals per game.

Renee Terrell leads the Skyhawks with two goals scored and four points, while Courtney Wamboldt has one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Britt Blomso (1-2-1) has allowed eight goals in 362 minutes. Her 24 saves are third most in the RMAC, while her 6.0 saves per game is tied for fourth in the conference.

Scouting the Grizzlies (1-3, 0-0 RMAC)

Adams State University is located in Alamosa, Colorado. The Grizzlies, who are 0-2 at home, have begun the 2018 season with a 1-3 overall record. ASU won its first match, 5-3, against the University of Minnesota Crookston, before falling to Northwest Nazarene (4-3), West Texas A&M (3-1), and Eastern New Mexico (2-1). The team is scoring 2.5, and allowing 3.0, goals per game. The Grizzlies 10 goals and 2.5 goals per game are second most in the RMAC.

Natalie Wheelock has scored three goals this season to lead the Grizzlies, which is tied for second most in the conference. Diana Cerillo has tallied two goals, while three players have recorded a goal and an assist. Corri Zaiger (1-3) has allowed 12 goals while making 30 saves in 359 minutes in goal. Her 30 saves and 7.5 saves per game lead the league.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-5)

Black Hills State University most recently fell to the University of Mary (5-3) and Montana State University Billings (3-0). Mikayla Hernandez scored a hattrick against the Marauders.  

Hernandez leads the squad with three goals. Rose Miller has two assists for the Yellow Jackets. Dz-Rae Jara (0-2) has allowed eight goals and made 13 saves in 210 minutes, while Zoe Baldwin (0-3) has allowed 12 goals in 239 minutes, while making 13 saves.

Last Time They Met

Both Fort Lewis and Adams State lead the series against BHSU, 2-0. Last season, the Skyhawks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 4-1, while the Grizzlies won the match against BHSU, 5-0.

Up Next

Following this weekend's games, the Green and Gold come home to have their first games in Spearfish this season. The Yellow Jackets welcome Westminster and Dixie State on September 21 and 23.
