SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team comes home for the first time this season, hosting Westminster College and Dixie State on September 21 and 23. Friday's match against the Griffins is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m., while Sunday's game against the Trailblazers begins at 11:15 a.m.
Scouting the Griffins (4-1, 1-0 RMAC)
Westminster College is located in Salt Lake City, and has begun the season 4-1, winning the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game last weekend against Dixie State (1-0). The Griffins are 1-1 on the road, falling to Texas A&M-Commerce to open the season, 2-1, and defeating Texas Woman's University, 2-1.
WC scores 1.8 goals per game, and allow 1.0 goals per game. Emma Heyn has scored three goals, while Allie Millerberg has tallied two goals and one assist. Libby Dearden also has two goals this year. Hillary Weixler (4-1) has played all 476 minutes in goal for the Griffins. She has allowed five goals while making 22 saves, currently holding a 0.95 goals against average. She has tallied two shutouts in 2018.
Scouting the Trailblazers (4-1, 0-1 RMAC)
Dixie State University, located in St. George, Utah, opened the season with four consecutive wins. Most recently, the Trailblazers fell to Westminster, 1-0, to open RMAC play. The goal allowed was the first given up this season. DSU has played all five of their games on the road, and will be wrapping up its season-opening road trip this weekend in South Dakota.
The Blazers allow just 0.2 goals, while scoring 1.2 goals per game. Whitley Johns leads the squad with three goals, while three other players have scored one time. Tori Page leads DSU with two assists. Felicity Tarr (1-1) has allowed one goal in 270 minutes, while making six saves. Nicole Rahman (3-0) has yet to allow a goal in 180 minutes in net. She has made two saves.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-7, 0-2 RMAC)
Black Hills State University opened league play last weekend, falling to Fort Lewis (3-0) and Adams State (5-1). Rachel Erickson scored her first career goal against the Grizzlies.
Mikayla Hernandez leads the squad with three goals, and also has tallied one assist. Rose Miller has three assists for the Yellow Jackets. Zoe Baldwin (0-5) has allowed 20 goals in 419 minutes, while making 32 saves. Dz-Rae Jara (0-2) has allowed eight goals and made 13 saves in 210 minutes.
Last Time They Met
Last season, BHSU took a 1-0 lead over Westminster, but the Griffins came back and won, 3-2. WC leads the series over the Yellow Jackets, 2-0. This will be the first ever meeting with the Blazers.
