SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team opened its home schedule on Friday afternoon, falling to Westminster College, 3-0.

The Griffins (5-1, 2-0 RMAC) opened the game on the front foot, with a flurry of shots and corner kicks in the first 12 minutes. Rose Miller took the first shot for the Yellow Jackets (0-8, 0-3 RMAC) in the 14th minute, and got another shot off in the 17th minute. However, in the 24th minute, Emma Heyn scored her fourth goal of the year, as Westminster took a 1-0 lead. BHSU entered halftime down, 1-0.

WC added two goals in the first three minutes of the second half. The defenses hunkered down after that, with neither team able to break through, though both teams elicited saves out of the opposing goalkeepers.

The Griffins outshot the Yellow Jackets, 32-9. Rachel Erickson led the Yellow Jackets with four shots, while Ella Goodman had two, both on goal, and Rose Miller also had two shots. Zoe Baldwin (0-6) played the first 68 minutes in net, allowing three goals and making seven saves. Teagen Hartley played the final 22 minutes, making two saves.

Aimee Kurfurst scored twice, while Emma Heyn had the first goal for the Griffins. Hillary Weixler (5-1) played all 90 minutes in goal, making four saves.

The Green and Gold continue their home stand on Sunday, September 23, hosting Dixie State University. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 11:15 a.m.
