SOC: Dixie State too much for BHSU

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to Dixie State University, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Trailblazers (5-2, 1-2 RMAC) got on the board quickly, as the ball fell to Ambree Bennett at the top of the box in the second minute, where she was able to beat the defense and slot it home for a 1-0 lead. DSU doubled its lead over the Yellow Jackets (0-9, 0-4 RMAC) in the 10th minute. Kelsey Cook made it three for the visitors in the 25th minute, and Dixie State took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

DSU scored quickly in the second half, and led BHSU, 4-0, in the 52nd minute. However, the Yellow Jacket defense held firm the remainder of the match, keeping the Trailblazers out of the net. The Green and Gold began to get a foot hold in the final 15 minutes, creating chances in the attacking third and putting pressure on the Dixie defense. However, they were unable to break through, and ultimately fell, 4-0.

The Trailblazers outshot the Yellow Jackets, 32-3. Madison Kandler, Rose Miller, and Caitlin Kelly each recorded a shot for BHSU. Zoe Baldwin (0-7) played the first half in net, making six saves and allowing three goals in 45 minutes. Teagen Hartley played the second half, allowing one goal and making four saves in 45 minutes.

Kelsey Cook scored twice, while Ambree Bennett and Whitley Johns each had a goal for the Trailblazers. Felicity Tarr (2-2) played the first 81 minutes in goal, making one save. Nicole Rahman place the final nine minutes.

The Green and Gold head back on the road traveling to Western State and Colorado Mesa next weekend. BHSU takes on the Mountaineers September 28 at 3 p.m., before kicking off against the Mavericks at 1 p.m. on September 30.
