SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University rodeo teams will be traveling to Fort Dodge, Iowa, to compete in the Iowa Central Community College Rodeo on Sept. 28 and 29.
The team takes to the road after competing in the Mid-Plains CC Rodeo in North Platte, Neb. The women took first place with an overall score of 435 points, while the men's team took third place with 270 points.
Lockhart was the Women's Reserve All-Around Champion.
Nationally, the men's team is ranked twenty-second, while being third in the region. On the women's side, the team is ranked third in the nation, and first in the region.
In the tie-down roping,
Colton Backhaus is ranked third in the region with 140.0 points, with
Carson Johnston not far behind in fourth with 130.0 points.
Collin Palmer is sixth in the region with 60.0 points.
Tucker Cythka is twelfth in the region for steer wrestling.
With 110.0 points in the team roping as a header,
Collin Palmer is ranked twelfth in the region, and
Chandler Comfort is ranked fourth as a heeler with 120.0 points.
In the barrel racing,
Alyssa Lockhart is tied for the first-place position with Madison Rau from SDSU with 200.0 points.
Carlee Johnston is third in the region with 160.0 points,
Cedar Jandreau is fifth with 110.0 points,
Taylor Hanson is sixth with 100.0 points, and
Tayle Brink is in eighth place with 45.0 points.
On the women's side, the Yellow Jackets hold the top six positions in the region in breakaway roping, with
KeAnna Ward and
Cora Borman tied for first place with 200.0 points, followed by
Alyssa Lockhart with 140.0 points,
Jada Maher with 130.0 points,
Courtney Peters with 110.0 points, and
Carlee Johnston with 90.0 points.
In the goat tying event,
Tayle Brink is second for the Great Plains Region with 210.0 points.
Emilee Pauley and
Carlee Johnston are tied for third place with 140.0 points.
Taylor Hanson is eighth in the region with 42.0 points.
Opal Harkins is ninth with 30.0 points, and
Sarah Scott is eleventh with 22.0 points.
After this weekend, the team will be staying in the state as they travel to Sisseton for the Sisseton Wapheton College Rodeo Oct. 11 and 12, with the North Dakota State University Rodeo in Fargo, N.D., being held on Oct. 13 and 14.
