SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team heads back on the road, traveling to Western State Colorado University and Colorado Mesa University this weekend. The Yellow Jackets take on the Mountaineers September 28 at 3 p.m., before traveling to Grand Junction, Colorado, to play the Mavericks at 1 p.m. on September 30.
Scouting the Mountaineers (1-7, 1-3 RMAC)
Western State Colorado University, located in Gunnison, Colorado, most recently fell to MSU Denver (3-0) and UCCS (2-0). The Mountaineers sole victory so far this season came against Colorado Christian (2-1). They are scoring 0.5 goals per game, while allowing 1.88 goals per game.
Four Mountaineers – Megan Wheelock, Aly Hargrove, Casey Ober, and Aspen Heale – have scored, while Wheelock and Katie Desch have each tallied an assist. Emilie Eckhart (1-7) has played almost every minute in net for WSCU. She has allowed 15 goals in 709 minutes, making 56 saves.
Scouting the Mavericks (3-4-1, 1-3 RMAC)
Colorado Mesa University, located in Grand Junction, Colorado, enter the weekend the losers of three short. After defeating CCU, 1-0, CMU fell to Colorado School of Mines (1-0), MSU Denver (2-0), and UCCS (5-0). Allowing 1.38 goals per game, the Mavericks are scoring 0.88 goals per game.
Alexis Allard, Lexi Newton, and Zoe Peterson have each scored two goals for CMU, while Ryanne Parker has also tallied a goal. Allard and Mackenzie King lead the squad with two assists. Time in net has been split. Kamrie Gunderson (1-1-1) has played 296 minutes, making three starts. She has allowed four goals, makig 13 saves. Janelle Richmond-Buccola (1-2) has made three starts, allowing six goals and making 19 saves in 270 minutes. Emily Signorio (1-1) has allowed one goal and made 11 saves in 180 minutes, while making two saves.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets (0-9, 0-4 RMAC)
Black Hills State University had its first home matches last weekend, falling to Dixie State (4-0) and Westminster (3-0). Rachel Erickson led the Yellow Jackets with four shots over the weekend.
Mikayla Hernandez leads the squad with three goals, and also has tallied one assist. Rachel Erickson has also scored for BHSU. Rose Miller has three assists for the Yellow Jackets. Zoe Baldwin (0-7) has allowed 26 goals in 532 minutes, while making 45 saves. Dz-Rae Jara (0-2) has allowed eight goals and made 13 saves in 210 minutes, while Teagen Hartley has played 66 minutes in net, allowing one goal and making six saves.
