SPEARFISH, S.D. – Dez Stoudamire and Fraser Malcolm each surpassed 20 points, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team took down Colorado State University-Pueblo, 94-79, on Saturday evening.
Malcolm had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets (9-8, 8-5 RMAC). Stoudamire had 24 points, making seven three-pointers. He also added eight boards, six assists, and three steals. This was the first game this season, and first since February 17, 2018, against Colorado Mesa, that two Yellow Jackets eclipsed 20 points in the same game. Desnica added 13 points for his sixth game in double-figures this season. Freshman Sava Dukic recorded nine points and six boards.
The first 15 minutes of the game consisted of back-and-forth action, with neither team able to establish a significant lead. With five minutes to play in the first, Stoudamire hit a trey to put the Yellow Jackets up six, 30-24. The Thunderwolves (5-14, 3-10 RMAC) would not go easily, however, and the home team led by four, 42-38, at the break.
After Desnica opened the second half on a three-point play, CSU-Pueblo used an 11-3 run to take a 49-48 lead, the first for the visitors since they led, 22-21, with 8:21 to go in the first. However, the Green and Gold immediately responded by going on a 12-5 run, and extended their lead out to eight with 13:11 left in the game. The Thunderwolves were able to get within three with just over 10 minutes left, but the Yellow Jackets eventually went up by double digits, 80-69, with 5:36 to play, and cruised to the 15 point win, 94-79, to win their second straight game.
BHSU shot 51.7 percent from the field (30-for-58), while CSUP was 41.2 percent from the floor (21-for-51). The Yellow Jackets were 14-for-34 (41.2 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Thunderwolves were 10-for-19 (52.6 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 20-for-23 (87.0 percent) from the charity stripe, and CSUP was 27-for-34 (79.4 percent) from the free throw line. The Green and Gold outrebounded CSU-Pueblo, 38-24.
Corey Seng led the Thunderwolves with 15 points and eight rebounds. Donovan Oldham added 14, while Harvey Barr recorded 10 points.
The Green and Gold continue their homestand next weekend, hosting Chadron State and MSU Denver on February 1-2. Friday's game against the Eagles is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
