Spearfish, SD – Despite strong defensive efforts, the Black Hills State University soccer team fell to the Orediggers 0-5 on Friday evening.
Â
Colorado School of Mines (13-2-1, 9-1-1), second in conference standings, put up a relentless barrage on the Yellow Jackets defense. They recorded 35 shots and 20 shots on goal. BHSU goal keeper
Teagen Hartley faced all 35 shots and managed an impressive 15 saves. Ultimately it wasn't enough.
Â
BHSU defense held Mines through the first twenty minutes before allowing two quick goals. The Yellow Jackets would continue to hold Mines at two through halfway, until the 60 minute mark when the Orediggers squeezed in two more goals. BH managed to move the ball into Oredigger territory but ultimately had to focus on a defensive strategy. They held Mines to four until the 82 minute, when Mines scored its final goal.
Â
Katie Nielson led the offensive with 2 shots while
Ella Goodman, Caitlin Kelly, and
Brianna Tudor all recorded a shot on goal.
Â
Yellow Jacket Soccer returns Sunday for its final home game of the season. BH will play CCU for senior day.
