Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University Volleyball team put on a show Friday night as they beat Adams State University in five sets. With this win, the Yellow Jackets now move to 7-5 in the conference.
Â
The first three sets were a bitter back and forth. In the first set, both teams went nearly point for point until the middle of the set when the Yellow Jackets went on a 5-0 run to seal the first set 25-20.
Â
Adams State woke up the second match going on a 5-1 run against BHSU. Aided by an ace by Alexandra MacAskill, the Jackets clawed their way back to even halfway at 12-12. Errors proved costly for the Yellow Jackets and they ultimately fell 23-25 in the second set. Both teams found their grove in the third set but a 5-0 run by Adams at the end would put BH in a must win situation having lost set three 21-25.
Â
Not cracking under the pressure, the Green and Gold dominated the fourth set. Lead by two kills from
Kindra Cerrone, the Jackets went on an 8-0 run to crush the Grizzlies 25-14. Tied 2-2 going into the fifth set, BHSU quickly fell behind to 4-7 when Coach Karmichael called a time out. Madison Hoopman helped turn the tide with two back to back kills. The Grizzlies would only manage to score three more times as the Green and Gold won the fifth set 15-10.
