Herman takes reins of Yellow Jacket softball

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University Director of Athletics, Jhett Albers, has announced that Marcelle Herman has been named the interim head softball coach at BHSU.

"Being from the area and having coached multiple sports and athletes, I am honored and thrilled to now be part of the amazing BHSU coaching staff," said Coach Herman. "I am excited about the potential of these young women softball players. We have a lot of talent and tons of heart to change the stars and create history."

Herman takes the helm of the Yellow Jackets for 2019-20. She has been an athlete and coach for over 26 years.

A native of Belle Fourche, S.D., Herman played softball at South Dakota State University. In addition to coaching, she has owned companies, managed a golf course, and has been a city department head. In 1995, Herman was named the Sportswriters' Coach of the Year for high school basketball after leading her team to a South Dakota State Championship.

"We are extremely excited to have Coach Marcelle Herman join the Yellow Jacket Family and leading our softball team as the head coach for the upcoming year," said Director of Athletics Jhett Albers. "She will bring confidence, passion, and excitement to our program. I can't wait to see our student-athletes flourish under her guidance and leadership."

The Yellow Jackets begin the fall season with scrimmages this weekend.
