SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University soccer team opens the 2019 season traveling east this weekend. The Yellow Jackets will play at Dakota Wesleyan on Friday, September 6, before taking on Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday, September 8.

Scouting the Tigers (2-1)

Dakota Wesleyan University, located in Mitchell, S.D., is a NAIA school. The Tigers have begun the season 2-1, most recently defeating Tabor, 1-0, in double overtime. They have also beaten Waldorf (2-0) and lost to Bethany (4-0).

Josephine Bardsley leads the team with two goals, while Alondra Partida has two assists. Goalkeeper Hannah Bowes (2-1) has played all three games between the posts, making 24 saves and allowing four goals. She has a 1.280 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.

Scouting the Mustangs

Southwest Minnesota State University, located in Marshall, Minnesota, is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The team was selected to finish 14th in the NSIC, with Abbey Hoisington (5 g, 2 a) and Olivia Harriger named Players to Watch.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

BHSU enters the fourth year of the program in 2019. Eleven players from last year's squad return this year. Rose Miller, who had one goal and three assists, and Katie Nielson, who had four goals, lead the Yellow Jackets as the only remaining members of the inaugural team. Seven newcomers enter the mix this season, fighting for time on the field.

Following this weekend, the Green and Gold head to Billings, Montana, where they will play two matches. The Yellow Jackets play the University of Mary on Thursday, September 12, before taking on Carroll College on Saturday, September 14.
