Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team held off a second half rally from UCCS to win 66-64. With this win, the Yellow Jackets make it eight in a row, move to 11-5 on the season and 8-2 in the RMAC, tying them in first place with Dixie State.
The Yellow Jackets seemed to have complete control of the ball game as they lead UCCS 34-22 at half making several big plays to end the first half of play. However, the Mountain Lions clawed their way back, outshooting BHSU by ten in the second quarter to make a huge comeback. Fortunately, the Yellow Jackets put up an impressive defensive stand and forced a few key turnovers to secure the win 66-64.
The team shot 23-51 on the night connect 45 percent of the time including seven three pointers. They also hit 11 of 14 free throws.
The Green and Gold had four shooters in double digits.
Tyler Oliver lead the team with 18 points and six rebounds.
Joel Scott was close behind with 15 points, he connected for seven of eleven attempts. Scott also posted seven rebounds.
Trey Whitley posted 11 points while
Tommy Donovan scored ten points.
The Green and Gold look to improve to number one in the conference tomorrow night as they host Colorado School of Mines. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
