Spearfish, SD - Whitney Scott is making her third nationals' appearance in as many years, although this time, it's the indoor version. She will compete in the pole vault at the D2 NCAA Indoor National Championships at 2:55pm mountain time on Saturday, March 14^th in Birmingham, AL.

Scott has qualified twice for the outdoor national meet in her freshman and sophomore year.

"I am really excited to have finally qualified for indoors," said Scott. "I came into this year with the idea of progressing more slowly and making sustainable improvements to give myself the confidence I needed to get to the next level. I've worked hard on treating competition like practice and have learned how to better control the adrenaline."

That methodical approach has paid off for Scott where she came close to her all time personal best and is second all time indoors with her indoor mark of 12' 09.50".

"My currently goal is clear 13 feet. I know I've had 13 foot jumps before, but I need to do it when the bar is there. I've taken my time this year to get on and learn new poles. I know a school record will come with clearing 13 feet but I really don't think about that part of it," said Scott.

Scott had a calm demeanor when thinking about the upcoming weekend, but she is ready to get down to business.

"I'm not going to over think this weekend, I am excited to compete, but it is just another business trip," said Scott. "I'm glad to be there with three other teammates, its an honor and privilege to get to this point and taking a step back and realizing that helps take the pressure of competing."

The sophomore from Watertown, SD is a graphic design major with a career ambition to have her own studio one day.
