Spearfish, SD – Three Yellow Jacket "Warrior of the Months" were unable to be officially recognized for their awards due to the cancellation of athletics. Abbie Fredrick and Sava Dukic were named the March Warriors of the Month while Antonio Capley was named in February. Warrior of the Month awards will resume next fall.

Abbie Fredrick

Black Hills State University women's cross-country/track team member Abbie Fredrick has been chosen as the March 2020's Warrior of the Month.  Abbie is a senior from Cheyenne, WY majoring in Exercise Science with a 3.255 cumulative GPA. Abbie is an outstanding cross country/track and field athlete and person. She was recently honored as an Academic All-American for this past Cross Country season. This track season she has been named the RMAC Athlete of the Week twice. Once for in mid-January for her record breaking performance at the Chadron State Open and again in late February when she ran the her national qualifying mark.

While being a cross country/track & field athlete keeps Abbie in season all year long, she volunteers any chance she gets. Each summer she is a volunteer camp counselor for the Cheyenne East High School Summer Sports Camp and a volunteer at the Cheyenne Capitol Summer Track Series. This event is a rare youth sporting event that gives little kids the opportunity to participate in track & field at an early age.

Her interest in a possible Physical Therapy future has led Abbie to log time working with an ACL prevention clinic called Sportsmetics. It has also led her to working with TOPS Adaptive Soccer; a soccer program for mentally and physically disabled children. While finishing her final season in cross county this past fall she completed a volunteer internship with the Children's Therapy Center.

Sava Dukic

Black Hills State University men's basketball team member Sava Dukic has been chosen as the March 2020's Warrior of the Month.  Sava Dukic has made a tremendous impact on the men's basketball team the past two seasons with his skill set, basketball IQ, toughness and leadership abilities.  This year, he led our team in 3 pointers made and assist to turnover ratio.  Over the last seven games of the season, he averaged 12 points per game.  Off the court, Sava has maintained a 3.0 GPA.  Sava also works with the Operations Team within the Athletics Division to assist with all events within the Young Center. He also volunteers with the Lead Boys & Girls Club, BHSU basketball camps, Western Hills Humane Society and serves as our SAAC representative.

Antonio Capley

BHSU Men's Basketball Team member Antonio Capley has been chosen for February 2020's Warrior of the Month.  Antonio has played a major role in our team's success on both ends of the court.  His team first attitude has allowed him to succeed in different roles over his four year career.  He currently ranks 3rd all-time in blocked shots and 7th all-time in rebounds in Black Hills State men's basketball history.  Off the court, Antonio is a model citizen.  He maintains a 3.1 GPA and is set to graduate this spring with a business degree.  Over his four years at BHSU, Antonio has volunteered with Relay for Life, BHSU Scholarship Gala, Trunk or Treat, Lead Boys and Girls Club and BHSU Basketball Camps.
